MotionSites vs Scrollytelling.ai: website prompts or a finished page?

Last updated: October 31, 2026 · AI website prompt library for Lovable, Bolt, Cursor and Claude

MotionSites pricing and what you actually buy

MotionSites (motionsites.ai) is not a website builder. It is a library of design prompts for animated landing pages: you pick a design from the gallery, copy its prompt, paste it into an AI builder such as Lovable, Bolt, Cursor, Claude, v0 or Replit, and that tool writes the site. When we checked it on October 31, 2026 it advertised 500+ premium prompts with new designs added daily, a library of looping animated video backgrounds, 40+ Lovable templates, section and app prompts, a 3D collection, a "Restyle" tool that redesigns an existing site in a chosen style, an MCP server for AI agents and free video tutorials in its Academy.

Lifetime$399 one-time (founding-member sale; listed regular $759)Unlimited prompts for life, updates and early access; final, no refunds

Is MotionSites free? Three prompts are, on a free account, and the Academy videos are. The rest is $129 a quarter, $279 a year or $399 once at the sale price on the day we checked, shown beside a countdown timer. Prices are in US dollars and every paid tier covers personal and client work. What none of them includes is the AI builder that turns the prompt into a site, hosting or an editor: those come from Lovable, Bolt, Cursor or whichever tool you paste into, on that tool's own plan. Prices checked on October 31, 2026 on motionsites.ai/unlimited.

MotionSites vs Scrollytelling.ai: a design brief or a published page

People come to both of us wanting the same thing: a page that moves, with a video hero, reveals that follow the scroll and the kind of polish that makes a visitor stop. The routes are different.

MotionSites sells the brief. Each design in the gallery comes with a long, carefully written prompt, and the source code behind the demo, and the AI builder you paste it into does the building. If you already work in Lovable, Bolt or Cursor, it is a quick way to a page that does not look like every other AI-made site, which is exactly how MotionSites pitches itself.

Scrollytelling.ai sells the page. You describe what you want, paste a URL or upload a PDF, and the platform generates the scroll-driven page itself, hero video included, hosts it, and gives you a visual editor to change anything without code. There is no second tool to pay for and nothing to deploy.

Weighing prompt libraries against each other? ScrollTide is the other well-known one, with templates aimed at Claude Code, Cursor and v0; we compared it in Scrollytelling.ai vs ScrollTide.

What MotionSites does better

Range and polish of the starting point. The gallery is large and grows every day, and its designs reach for 3D scenes, liquid glass, ink reveals and cinematic heroes that no template-based builder, ours included, produces out of the box. Every one comes as a prompt you can remix. The background library is useful to anyone who builds pages, and the MCP server lets an agent in Claude Code, Cursor or Codex pull a design brief without leaving the editor.

It also suits volume. For a freelancer or an agency shipping several client sites a month in Lovable or Cursor, a $399 lifetime licence that covers client work pays for itself on the first project.

Where it falls short, and who should not buy it

A prompt is the start of the work. It goes into a builder with its own plan and credit limits, the builder's first attempt rarely matches the demo exactly, and the gap is closed by more prompting or by editing code. The site then needs hosting and a domain, and every later change, a price or a paragraph, means another round in the builder. The refund policy is strict as well: purchases count as digital content delivered immediately, and lifetime plans and prompt packs are final.

That is the group searching for a "MotionSites alternative": people who loved the demos and then found that the demo is not what they bought. If what you want is the published page, a hosted builder with an editor is the alternative.

If you came here from MotionSites

Three things to try on the free plan before spending anything:

Paste a URL. If you already have a site or a product page, paste its address and the AI builds the scroll-driven version from your real photos and text, with a hero video generated from your own image rather than stock.

Paste the brief. A MotionSites prompt describes sections, tone, colours and motion. Paste it, or your own version of it, into the story prompt and you get a hosted page instead of code. Instructions for WebGL or 3D scenes are ignored; the rest is used.

Edit it by hand. Select any element and change text, colours, fonts, spacing or the video itself without credits. The AI chat is one click away when you would rather describe the change.

Only after a moving background? The motion backgrounds gallery is free to browse and build on. What you give up is 3D, shaders and fully custom motion. If the demo that sold you was a WebGL scene, that is developer or agency work, and a MotionSites prompt is a cheap way to brief it.

Verdict

Buy MotionSites if you already build with Lovable, Bolt, Cursor or Claude and want stronger designs to start from, or you ship client sites often enough for the lifetime licence to pay off.

Use Scrollytelling.ai if you want the page itself: generated, hosted and editable, free to start and $10 a month after, with no second tool and no code anywhere in the process.

Frequently asked questions

Is MotionSites free?

A free account opens 3 prompts, and the Academy video tutorials are free. The full library is $129 every three months, $279 a year or $399 once at the founding-member sale price seen on October 31, 2026 (listed regular price $759). Prompt packs are $49 for 2, $99 for 5 and $149 for 10. None of it includes the AI builder, hosting or an editor.

What is the best MotionSites alternative for non-developers?

A hosted scrollytelling builder that generates and hosts the page for you. Scrollytelling.ai has a free plan with one AI-generated story and paid plans from $10 a month billed yearly; no code, visual editor, custom domain on paid plans.

Does MotionSites host my website?

No. MotionSites gives you the prompt; the site lives wherever the tool you paste it into puts it. Lovable and Bolt host on their own plans, and code written by Cursor or Claude you deploy yourself.

Can I use a MotionSites prompt in Scrollytelling.ai?

You can paste the same brief into the story prompt, and the AI builds a hosted page from it. Instructions for WebGL or 3D scenes are ignored; everything describing content, sections, colours and mood is used.

Which costs more over a year?

For one site: MotionSites $279 a year (or $399 once) plus the AI builder's own subscription and hosting; Scrollytelling.ai $120 a year on Starter with hosting included, or $9 once for a single story. For a freelancer or agency building many client sites with AI builders, the MotionSites lifetime licence wins.

Can I get a refund from MotionSites?

Generally not. Its refund policy (updated September 30, 2026) treats every purchase as digital content delivered immediately; lifetime plans and prompt packs are final, and subscriptions can be cancelled but are not refunded for the unused period. Refunds are made for errors such as a double charge if you ask within 14 days.

Do both have an MCP server for AI agents?

Yes, with different jobs. The MotionSites MCP hands your agent design prompts (3 free, all 500+ on paid plans). The Scrollytelling MCP server hands it the finished, tested source of our scroll widgets, with no AI and no credits involved.

One AI-generated story, published on a subdomain, no card. If it does the job, Starter is $10 a month billed yearly.
